This bridge over Douro River collapsed in March 4th 2001, dragging a bus and two cars into the water, which was fatal to all the occupants. Uncontrolled sand extraction destabilised one pillar, causing the tragedy. The bridge right behind was built in 2005. Both connect the municipalities of Castelo de Paiva (on the right) and Penafiel (on the left). HFW!

Boats remain moored to the wharf for overnight. Depending on the boat, passengers sleep in the boat or in a hotel at Peso da Régua. On the opposite riverside lies Lamego municipality. HFW!
