It thrived until the mid 20th century, when the decay of demand brought about the closure of several plants, not only in the Algarve but in other seaside places with a significant fishing fleet. This model shows in real size one of the procedures before tinning the fish - mostly sardines and tunny - inside the Museum of Portimão.
