Solar Flare Aurora Borealis

10 May 2024 12 5 442
Trail, BC, Canada. It is amazing how much more the camera sensor can pick up than the naked eye. This is my first time seeing the lights at this latitude, 49th parallel. I used to live further north and could see them regularly. The solar flare certainly extended the range for more people to witness them.

From our backyard feeder. This Jay will empty the peanut dispenser and hide them all over the yard and parts of the neighborhood. It always takes the last one into the nearby tree and eats it. This one looks like a juvenile or it is molting.

Our air quality index is currently: Hazardous 320 AQI US On the British Columbia Air Quality site, we are at 10+. Photo taken shortly after noon PST. No clouds. The masks we have been using for Covid are very useful when the atmosphere gets this thick.
