The Sunday Challenge: Birds

This is about as close as I got to any birds this week. They seemed to know that I was coming. I did finally get a photo of this bird which is never situated in a safe place for me to pull over an park. It rests on power lines along many roadways. Even at that I had to crop to get any detail of (we think its a) her.

Further down the road I found a murder of crows foraging in a recently harvested field. See Note.

goandgo, , Heidiho, LutzP and 14 other people have particularly liked this photo

Nice photograph. The power pole and lines add extra character to the photo.

Hey, congratulations on getting anything, as it seems to be a quiet week for birds right now. He looks like he has some nice coloring.

I think the birds got the memo regarding our challenge for this week. So many areas void of birds at the moment ... perhaps the heat is keeping them in cooler darker spots right now. :( Glad you were able to catch this one ... the pole does add interest to the incoming Kerstel. :)

She is just taking off. I got some of her flying as well. What I want to catch some time is one of them hovering while hunting. They can hold their position in the air for quite some time. It is dramatic to watch.

oops about the incoming lol Have seen birds hover for some time before taking the plunge and you are so right, very dramatic. I have never had my camera handy the few times I have witnessed this. :(

Very nice timing and action shot. I only ever see birds of prey where I can't stop on the motorway.
