Interesting! grimeton.org/?lang=en

Back in the mid 70s, when I was a technician with the then government owned Telecoms organisation, my work was testing new trunk & junction cables and aerial lines. We were testing new aerial lines between Broken Hill and Silverton. We were getting a steady interfering tone at around 44Khz from memory. We couldn't find a source for it. Then I remembered reading about a US Naval station at North West Cape (The opposite side of Australia) operationg in that frequency range. We asked our office to investigate and they later agreed that North West Cape would be the source. The lines would have been a 3-4 wavelength antenna aimed a bit off great circle line to NW Cape.
