Camber

Here’s the soul
in a photograph:
circles of light,
shuttering leaves -
an instant,
an instance -
a road of soft pine straw,
some faces glimpsed ,
some scattered islands.
Walking, you were
just outside the frame,
feeling the camber
of the steady ground
begin to shift beneath your feet.
