Dutch Windmill with fence

Dutch Windmill with fence
Our air is back to normal (for now), and we delight in breathing freely and looking at blue skies. However, Central Oregon, including Portland, still has purple and brown air, and the fires up north remain out of control. There is some hope for a bit of rain early next week. Send good thoughts.

This is the northern windmill, known as the Dutch or Queen Wilhelmina windmill. Normally photographed with its lovely tulip garden, this is an angle featuring the obligatory fence.

So far, so good. We may get a bit more smoke, but nothing like we had of late. But some very big fires in the mountains and in the north are still burning, and it's only September ... but this is the reality we live in, and we have no one to blame for it but ourselves.

Fires are not over, but the smoke has cleared around here, for now. The fire season will likely continue, and the hurricane season, and the arctic ice is melting faster and faster.... so, speaking strictly for myself, having to wear a mask that makes it safe for me and others to move around freely feels like a small issue compared to what the future holds for humanity.
But I recognize that what for me is just a tool is for others a symbol of something greater.

There were some rains up north, especially in Oregon, bringing some relief. Down here, we're not likely to get any real rain anytime soon. So the fire season won't be over until it's over ... it's been a bit of a challenging year, and will likely *heat* up more come the elections!

Yes, though for you, maybe things will improve and winters become milder -- who knows?

Thank you -- I don't think we'll ever have *normal* again in our lifetime.
