Puerto Padre, Las Tunas - CUBA.

Surnommée Villa Azul de los Molinos (ville bleue des moulins), Puerto Padre s'étend sur 180 km2 et figurait déjà sur les cartes du Nouveau Monde sous le nom Portus Patris au 16e siècle.

La légende veut qu'un marin, arrivant dans son port à bord d'une caravelle de Christophe Colomb et découvrant le site dit à son voisin, un prêtre : « Que puerto, padre ! ». Fallait y penser.

Cette ville est attirante au même titre que Trinidad, Gibara ou Remedios : relativement calme et petite, comptant de l'architecture coloniale et un port, Carupano.

Le port jouxte la masse d'eau nommée Bahia de Puerto Padre ou Cascarero qui contient le port Carupano, la baie de Chaparra et au beau milieu de la bahia, deux petits cayos, Juan Claro et Puerco.

Les plages Las Bocas et La Llanita y sont collées (page ici) et plus loin à l'ouest, une longue bande de corail s'étend au large d'une plage à Covarrubias où se trouve un seul hôtel, du même nom.

Puerto Padre is a municipality and city in the Las Tunas Province of Cuba. It is located on the northern coastal region of the province, in an estuary (Estero El Espanolito) that opens into the Puerto Padre Bay.

Known popularly as the City of Mills, Puerto Padre has a history dating back into the 16th century. In the mid-19th century, the city began its transformation from a small town into an industrial centre with the construction of its first sugarcane mill. The city played a large role in Cuba's wars of independence, and today is something of a tourist centre.
