MN1000 ROLAND - ROLAND TROOP 18TH MOUNTED INFANTRY JUNE 1908

MN1000 ROLAND - ROLAND TROOP 18TH MOUNTED INFANTRY JUNE 1908
POSTCARD

Date: June 1908 (from image Caption).

Publisher / Photographer: Published by Atkinson Bros. Publishers, Toronto.

Notation: Card is unused. At some time I'll need to learn more about this troop. Buy the number of kids hanging around and their proximity to these fellows and their horses, I'd venture to say that they maintained good community relations.

I guess it was just the militiamen of the town. One thing I've come to realize from postcards is how much military activity there was before the First World War. It was a big part of life.

Great Atkinson Bros. wood-frame ... they're always glossier than the very similar Stedman equivalent, with that typeset strip along the bottom of the image. These were cards that a local seller would have made up by Atkinson (or Stedman) on request from a submitted photo, so they're often rare.

I have asked some of the military buffs around here, but no one seems too knowledgeable about anything that pre-dates WWI.
