Undoubtedly Emerald Lake is the main attraction of Yoho National Park. And, mainly, the blue and turquoise color is the principal reason to make this lake considered as the jewel of the Canadian Rockies. The first non-indigenous person to set sight on Emerald Lake was Canadian guide Tom Wilson, who stumbled upon it by accident in 1882. A string of his horses had gotten away, and it was while tracking them that he first entered the valley. The lake had an impression on him: "For a few moments I sat [on] my horse and enjoyed the rare, peaceful beauty of the scene." It was Wilson who gave the lake its name because of its remarkable color, which due to a different rock type producing the sediment that is suspended in the glacial water, reflects the green spectrum of sunlight. The waters of Moraine Lake seem like they have been poured straight from the heavens into the Valley of the Ten Peaks. The towering mountains encircle the deep blue surface of the lake in a formation so extraordinary, only Mother Nature could shape it. Piles of boulders have been seemingly dropped by the hands of giants, forming miniature mountains near the lakeshore. Consolation Lakes cannot match the beauty of its neighbor, Moraine Lake. However, the view is still outstanding. Probably better viewed full screen 1 pip &1 note

Spahat Falls

Der Gärtnerturm auf der Insel Mainau. "Vis à vis zum Schloss befindet sich der Gärtnerturm. Das massive Untergeschoss des Turms stammt aus dem Mittelalter, erbaut aus Resten der mittelalterlichen Festungsanlage, die sich damals auf der Insel befunden hat. Sein achteckiger Aufbau und das Helmdach sind im 19. Jahrhundert entstanden." (www.mainau.de)
