Nazaré, o Sítio

Nazaré, o Sítio
On December the 14th, 1182, a nobleman, D. Fuas Roupinho, master of the Porto de Mós castle (a nearby village) was hunting on horseback near the coast in the middle of a dense fog. One deer run away in front of him and he went in pursuit, the deer went up to the high ground and he kept riding close, leaving behind his friends. Suddenly he saw he was near the precipice, in danger of falling off and then recognized the place where he was. Nearby there was a grotto where the local people kept and venerated an image of St. Mary and the Child. He then screamed Our Lady Help me.The horse froze, his feet glued to the ground and thus his master was saved.
To show his gratitude for the miracle he ordered a chapel to be built in that place; where it can be seen today. It seems you can see the marks of the horse's hoof on the rock, even now…Yes I went there, yes there are marks on the rock, marks of a legend, maybe ...
End of story.

Marco F. Delminho, Dimas Sequeira, , have particularly liked this photo
