Opened in November 2015 "Gedenkort für Deserteure und andere Opfer der NS-Militärjustiz" was created by sculptor Volker Lang. The words are from the radioplay "Deutschland 1944", a collage of citations by Helmut Heißenbüttel. The memorial stands between a Nazi war memorial (see inset photos) and an infinished monument by sculptor Alfred Hrdlicka (see next photo)

Viennese sculptor Alfred Hrdlicka was commisioned to create a monument against war as an answer to the existing Nazi monument. He planned four parts in the shape of a broken swastika but finished only two. In 1985 the first part "Hamburger Feuersturm" commemorating the bombing of Hamburg in WWII was inaugurated, in 1986 the second part "Fluchtgruppe Cap Arcona" which is a memorial to the KZ prisoners who drowned when the ships they were on were sunk by British bombers.
