Thanks a lot, Keith! I have survived so far but A&E in all our big hospitals have been overrun...

Same here in the south of England where I live.Several of the hospitals have reported they are struggling to cope with hundreds of 999 calls from people having heat-related problems. There are also reports of critical equipment breaking down due to the heat and patient and staff suffering in dangerously hot conditions in wards with no air-conditioning and windows that don't open!

That sounds familiar... We have four big hospitals in town and they were all struggling. Our hospitals usually also have no AC in the wards (except for ICU). They urgently need to do something about protection from heat (the same goes for old people's homes and schools).

He's a very handsome fellow with his hair Brylcreemed and his beard trimmed to perfection. I really like the sentiment of the PiP. I hope you cool down soon, Gudrun. I left our house only once this week until today, the heat was unbearable, and the quarry tiles on the kitchen floor were my saviour. The cool weather is coming towards you.

Thank you so much, Amelia! I was using a bucket with cold water to put my feet in;-) The past week I only went out in the mornings, after 9.30 it simply got unbearable. I also had to turn off my laptop most of the time, it got so hot I was afraid it would self-ignite;-)
