Zapahuira

Der Rastplatz Zapahuira liegt auf 3200m an der Ruta 11 (Andenstraße), die in knapp 200km von Arica am Pazifik bis zur bolivianischen Grenze bei Tambo Quemado (4660m) führt.
Die Andenstraße ist auch für den Güterverkehr vom Freihafen in Arica nach Bolivien eine wichtige Strecke und aufgrund der Kurven, übermüdeter Fahrer und der extremen Höhe sehr unfallträchtig.

Besten Dank, Reinhard! Das Stroh ist ein hartes Gras des Andenhochlands (paja brava/ festuca orthophylla), das dort überall zum Decken von Dächern genutzt wird, ähnlich wie bei Reetdächern, nur weniger kunstvoll. Oft wird dann auch der Rand des Dachs wie hier mit Gras"fransen" verziert, vermutlich damit Feuchtigkeit besser abläuft (es gibt dort oben eine Regenzeit).
