The architect originally intended a water feature all around the cubus of the new library, this fell victim to rising costs.

Later the adjacent building lots were sold for maximum profit, leading to oversized ugly buildings obscuring the view of the library. The building permit for the hotel to the right demanded a "green" facade with plants. This was later dropped by the developers ("not doable") and the town council just let it go. The building quality was so shoddy that facade panels fell off right after completion;-)
