Designed by David Chipperfield architects, the tower was planned to a height of 245m. Due to the Benko bankruptcy the main construction firm (which hadn't been paid) stopped work in 2023 at 100m height. On top of that the neighbouring rail stations and bridges have suffered damage (cracks) because of soil subsidence resulting from the tower's weight and probably will need to be repaired/ stabilized.
The nickname kurzer Olaf (short Olaf) refers to former Hamburg mayor/ German Chancellor Olaf Scholz who very much furthered the project.

Der Boden unter dieser Bauruine ist übrigens eigentlich nicht wirklich geeignet, hörte ich kürzlich. Aber macht ja nichts, wenn das Ding in wenigen Jahren kurz vor dem Zerfall ist, wird es ja sowie so wieder abgerissen :-( Trotzdem ein gutes Foto!

It sounds as if the whole project was a disaster Gudrun. It will probably cost a fortune to put right and everyone involved will be arguing about whose fault it was and who should be responsible for sorting it out..!!

Nevertheless this is a smashing architectural image, captured in nice light with lots of lovely lines and geometrical shapes to explore.
