Reykjarfjörður

Reykjarfjörður
Reykjarfjörður is a side arm of Suðurfirðir, the southern part of Arnarfjörður. There are thermal springs and a small pool at Reykjarfjörður, Reyk in place names denoting hot springs. The farms are deserted and only summer homes are left, a typical story in the depopulated western fjords.
Summer inhabitants include sheep and arctic terns. The latter are extremely aggressive defending theis nests.

Danke vielmals, Udo! Die Westfjorde sind nicht an der "Rennstrecke", die Strassen sind teilweise schlecht und man kommt nur langsam vorwärts- lohnt sich aber unbedingt!

Danke, Reinhard! Aus dieser Gegend sind ganz viele Bewohner weggezogen, weil es keine Arbeit mehr gab und nur ganz langsam geht es wieder aufwärta. Landschaftlich ist es wunderschön.

I agree with Juleann on this Gudrun. Looks like it was a hard life there - its July and there's still snow on the hills. I like the tern image too.

Thanks, Graham! It was hard and when the local fishing industry collapsed many left the area to look for jobs in Reykjavik. People who need the bright lights of a city would go crazy during the winters in the fjords...

Schönen Dank, Iris! Die Landschaft ähnelt dem, was ich auf Fotos von den Färöern gesehen habe-gleiche Geologie. Ja, die Seeschwalben sind faszinierend, pünktlich am 1. August ziehen sie jedes Jahr wieder nach Süden!

Besten Dank, Gisela! Die Sommerhäuser wurden sicher von Leuten gebaut, die es dann in Reykjavik zu Wohlstand gebracht haben...Unser Guide stammte aus den Westfjorden, was der von seiner Kindheit erzählt hat...einfach war das nicht.
