Drying fish heads at Sauðárkrókur harbour

Drying fish heads at Sauðárkrókur harbour
Not so very long ago Icelanders ate the fish heads themselves and exported the fillets. Now the heads are exported to Africa.

Annemarie, Marco F. Delminho, Gabi Lombardo, Xata and 5 other people have particularly liked this photo

Not only the photo is interesting - so is the conversation here! I have never eaten dried fish, but smoked fish - yes! HOWEVER, I have eaten bull testicles without knowing what it was until later. : O

It was delicious, by the way.

Thanks, Diane! LOL- the point is not knowing beforehand!
Dried fish can be quite nice, actually! In Norway and Iceland you can buy fish chips, a healthy snack. As long they stay dry and crsipy they taste good:-)

Thank you so much! Icelanders were very poor and hard working. They still aren't rich and still hard working...

Fishermen’s life is very hard, even if their conditions improved... As kid I used to eat fish heads, we sold the rest... well, it is not so bad!
