Learned something new from the Thora Hird poster Denis. I had never actually heard of the term 'Sandgrown' despite my Dad possibly qualifying as one having been born at Scarborough.

What I read was that it applies to someone born by the seaside although some references say particularly Blackpool. Thora Hird was born in Morecambe so obviously qualifies when the general term is applied as does my Dad.
