15 Vicar's Close Wells c1953

15 Vicar's Close Wells c1953
Uploaded for Vintage Photos Theme Park, distinctive house theme.
I lived here from 1953 for a couple of years. The street is reputed to be the oldest complete street, lived in continuously, in Europe. Built between 1348 and 1430 it was for people who worked in the adjacent cathedral. My Dad was on the staff there then.

Roger (Grisly), Smiley Derleth, arts enthusiast and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

A lovely home to have lived in. Nothing much changes here, does it?

Those two large bushes were Japonicas and my mother used to make jam or jelly from the fruit. They weren't any use for anything else as they were very hard and acid. The reddy-pink flowers were very pretty though.

Well, they have restored the chimneys, replacing the assorted pots with a sort of stone cage. Any recent photo online will show you what I mean. I sort of regret that. They look too neat and tidy and not how I remember them.
