A Shinto Shrine is dedicated to the spirit protecting agricultural production. Shintoism is an ancient set of beliefs and practices of the people of Japan. Foxes have become closely associated with Shintoism and serve as its messengers. Foxes are generally decorated with a red bib and may have an object in their mouth, like a rolled message or a key.
