Heute ein Museum, in dem aber immer noch Silber in Gold verwandelt wird, mit anderen Worten, es werden Heringe geräuchert. Ein Bornholm-Besuch ohne Einkehr in eine Räucherei ist möglich, aber sinnlos (frei nach Loriot). Today this old smokehouse is a museum but one in which they still turn silver into gold - in other words they smoke herrings there. Südlich der kleinen Hafenstadt Hasle fand seit dem 17./18. Jahrhundert Kohleabbau statt. Allerdings war die Kohle von sehr schlechter Qualität und die Nachfrage war außer in Kriegszeiten recht gering. Allerdings stieß man auf brauchbare Lehmschichten, das wiederum beförderte die Klinker- und Schamottsteinherstellung. All das ist längs Geschichte, doch die Abbaustätten können besichtigt werden, dort gibt es große Informationstafeln mit Texten auf dänisch, deutsch und englisch. Wie viele Seen in der Gegen von Hasle und auf dem Hammerknuden im Norden entstand auch dieser See, nachdem der Abbau von Bodenschätzen aufgegeben worden war. Eine sehr große Arbeit meines - leider 2009 verstorbenen - Lieblingsbildhauers Jun-Ichi Inoue: Fellowship - Heaven together with Fire (2001/02). Inoue arbeitete, seit er sich auf Bornholm angesiedelt hatte, ausschließlich mit Bornholmer Granit. Charakteristisch für seine Arbeiten ist das Ineinanderspiel von rauen, quasi "unbehandelten" und polierten Oberflächen.
