narrow escape

It happened in broad daylight - mother of twelve brutally attacked and raped by two youths - in front of her frightened offspring. Luckily for the little ones, their mother led the attackers away from them, so that in the end the family escaped. None of the onlookers of this brutal scene did anything to help, they just gawked and took snapshots.
