I used an AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G on a Nikon D90. The lens was set at 70mm and the camera at 640 ISO, f/8, 1/500th sec. Optically, that cheap consumer lens has a lot to offer, especially when used at less than 200mm and stopped down a bit. The quality of its construction, however, is uninspiring. It's hard to believe it came from the same manufacturer as all those impeccable AI lenses of the late 1970s.

An appealing image. Well seen. Nice when a cheap lens performs well, as with this lovely shot. Just have to know the strengths of the lens and when not to count on it.
