CL&P 13.8kV - Danbury, CT

Typical 1990's-early 2010's CL&P specs, which has become very generic since countless lines in the past 10-20 years have been replaced with these (and the 8' crossarm equivalents), but I'd still gladly take this over fiberglass. Period. I believe this was taken in 2014, so I think CL&P still does on occasion or certain areas still use their previous specs, since they've begun (dreadfully) using fiberglass arms on everything. Also, I believe these poles are using the newest Hendrix insulators, which seem to look like a cross between the typical 15-35kV polymer insulators and porcelain skirted insulators. Nice classic 1970's CL&P "flat-top" construction with 15kV sky-glaze porcelain. I still like Hendrix polymer insulators but not as much as before they've become WAY overused and the rather generic post-1980's/90's CL&P constructions appeared all over the grid. Source: Bing Maps

CL&P 13.8kV - Danbury, CT

This pole looks like it was installed as of 2014 and maybe close to the summer, since Bing Map had a massive update. But I'm wondering if it was before or after CL&P's current specs... Though I always love the sight of a brand new pole with wooden crossarms and V-braces. Even though I'm sure CL&P is strictly going the fiberglass route and probably indefinitely, but I'm supposing sometimes they'll use their previous specs? Only time will tell... : / Kudos to CL&P and a lot of other utilities that recycle the street light brackets/masts! Source: Bing Maps

CL&P 13.8kV - Brookfield, CT

This is a childhood pole of mine. A typical, classic CL&P circuit breaker pole from anywhere between the 1970's-80's, after when the whole area converted from around 4800V Δ to 13.8kV Y between 1968-73. Going by the FERC reports. There was originally only chicken-wing bracket construction between this pole prior to the later upgrades during the 1990's. There is some Hendrix vise-top yuk. If it's original then this pole dates to the 1980's-early 1990's. Otherwise it would have had 15kV-rated porcelain gray insulators (likely non radio-top). You got some nice Joslyn pellet porcelain arresters. Don't see those being put up anymore, sadly. The streetlight looks original too but not sure. Much nicer than the ugly LED fixtures they put up nowadays! While this Bing Maps shot is from 2014, this was still up as of 2016 when I last visited. I THINK I have a shot or more of this pole in better quality but this isn't too shabby for Bing Maps. Credits: Bing Maps
