As a kid in the Northeastern U.S., I remember so many other soda brands: Hoffman's, White Rock, Cel-Ray... Most of these are long gone, but we'll always have The Great White North! :D

Nice classic coat design, and that nifty floating hourglass which showed up more than once during this era.

I know the dayglo hued, ink-blob school of drawing isn't for everyone. But you gotta' love how the casserole (or soup bowl) looks like it's an alien having a midday nap.

The farmer looks like he'd rather be fishing, and who can blame him? Looks like a gorgeous day in scenic N.J. (The land of my birth.) :D

This is probably a good time to mention that I'm gonna' miss the communities on flickr like "Gee, That Food Looks Terrible." But I'll always have the "You cooked WHAT?!" tag to remind me of those happy (?) days gone by.

Kind of confusing to see "Hot Breads" mentioned in the lower right corner. Until you remember that it's meant as a coming attraction. Quick! Move on from lemon aspic with cranberry mush, and its sad ring of mystery meat.

Most of us would labor for decades to get a ring of berry with such a perfect satiny sheen. Also, on the pages I didn't scan, Chef Cran has done a lot of living: partied with squirrels, skated on cake frosting, fenced, made movies, played guitar, etc. They're an inspiration to us all.

Who wouldn't want to do The Eatmor knowing it'd give them the raw sex appeal of Chef Cranberry here?

Beautiful dish, but you just know that every time you had to wash it in the sink, one of those damn glass beads would snap off.

From the September issue: "Leonor Fini's fantastic canvases depict with her own bizarre elegance things like shells, snails, butterflies, skulls and Gothic faces. Fini is from Trieste, loves cats and cakes, is now in Paris, where she painted the cover for this issue."
Check out her tribute page . Great stuff.

"If salads are going to play the important part they should in our diet, it will mean two salads for the housewife to prepare every day. This is not nearly as difficult as it sounds..." since usually it's just going to be an iceberg wedge with a glob of something mayo-esque plopped onto it. God help us.

The maid or butler will be super-proud to serve the "Christmas Canape": toast pieces in star shapes, with Sandwich Spread ("a pleasing combination of mayonnaise, pickles, and vegetables"), and pimento. Yes, quite.

"Jellied Vegetable Ring... Serve with Mayonnaise or Different Dressing..." Or different... everything. That would help.
