Burgundy / Bourgogne
A collection of photos taken over the years. They all just have in common, that they were taken in Burgundy. Some were taken, on my way to Vezelay (2005) and following the Via Lemovicensis (2006).
And yes, when I visited places a second or third time - I continued taking photos, so some of them may look like twins.

...the Fosse Dionne is for sure one of the nicest wash-houses in the whole of France. Actually there is a mythic secret. Deep inside lives a gaelic godess, who from time to time...

..inside the Hôtel-Dieu de Tonnerre. - This was built as a hospital for the pilgrims heading to Vezelay
and from there on to Santiago between 1293 and 1296. The building was financed by Marguerite de Bourgogne. It covers 4500 m² and is one of the largest and oldest of such "hospitals" in France.

....the Abbaye de Pontigny shows a different style, as Cistercians, lead by Bernard of Clairvaux, did not like any luxury. Every thing had to be simple and utilitarian, as any kind of ornamentation would distract the monks....

Weather had improved. In Molosmes, the church was crumbling. Once this church was part of the Benedictine Abbaye Notre-Dame de Molosmes

...the old door handle showed an iron lion. Maybe the lion was from
Zion and Bob Marley had been here as well, finding this icon of the

Vezelay - Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine

The central tympanum over the entrance of the Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine leading from the narthex to the nave has three archivolts.
The middle archivolt is composed out of 29 round medailons. Here is one of these medailons, depincting a mermaid with very long hair.
