Argos - Byzantine Museum of Argolida

Argos - Byzantine Museum of Argolida
The museum houses an extensive collection of artefacts representing early Byzantine culture, that is, the Christianisation that took place at the end of the Roman Empire. These were collected in the Argolis region, of which Argos forms part.

Mosaic floor depicting a Quadriga
4th c AD.
It was discovered in 1973–1974 during excavations at a luxurious villa south of the ancient Agora of Argos.
The names of the horses are recorded in Greek inscriptions at the bottom of the mosaic:
Xanthos, Ladas, Drakon and Proteus
