Larnaca - Castle

Larnaca Castle is located at the end of the Finikoudes Promenade. As early as the 12th century, the Lusignans erected a fortress here. During the reign of James I, between 1382 and 1388, the fortress was expanded into a more substantial castle.

In the 18th century, the castle lost its significance and was abandoned. During British rule, the castle was used as a prison. During the Cypriot Civil War, Greek Cypriots held the castle and also used it as a prison.

Following Cyprus' independence, the castle was repurposed as a museum.
