Bressuire - Saint Sauveur de Givre en Mai

Bressuire - Saint Sauveur de Givre en Mai
Legends tell, that in 732 after the Battle of Tours, a group of Saracen soldiers took refuge in the church. The (over months) besieged Saracens told Charles Martel´s troops, that the would only surrender, if it froze. This was in May - and the next morning the ground was white from frost. This sign from heaven forced the Saracens to capitulate.

The church in Saint Sauveur, meanwhile a part of Bressuire, seen here, was erected in the 12th century, centuries after the Battle of Tours.
