Lana - St. Margarethen

Lana - St. Margarethen
A legend tells, that the triapsidial church has been founded in gratitude by Empress Theophanu, the Byzantine wife of Emperor Otto II. Her carriage broke down here. She could leave the place unharmed - and funded the erection of this chapel. The structure reminds a bit on the abbey church in Müstair.

In 1215 the chapel was donated to Teutonic Order by Emperor Friedrich II ("stupor mundi"). Soon after the chapel may have benn enlarged and got some superb murals.

, have particularly liked this photo
