Rafting the Zambezi.

Rafting the Zambezi.
I didn't actually take this shot, as I'm the one in the front of the boat in the yellow t-shirt swallowing and inhaling gallons of water.
How none of us drowned remains a mystery.
Just downstream from Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

An awesome shot Phill.............with a real sense of movement and danger! Brilliant action photography.

........and kudos to all those - including you of course - in the raft! It looks great fun, but you're all either very brave or slightly crazy to be doing it!

You lived to tell the thrilling tale....
Actually it's a cracker of an action shot.
A very fetching portrait of you, by the way :-)
Looks dead dodgy to me, overall...... Happy Sunday Phill...

Thanks to you all for your comments. I signed the disclaimer and handed over about a months worth of my volunteers wages, thinking it would be a fun day out. The fun stopped there. As soon as I got into the raft I knew I'd made a bad choice, but it was too late...we were off. Like one of those hideous fairground rides you wish you hadn't bothered queuing for...only this wasn't a 3 minute spin, but a 22mile / 6hour nightmare on the legally highest grade commercial rapids in the world. Bravery didn't come into it. I found it quite harrowing, and when I say I'm amazed none of us drowned, I really mean it.
Kind of glad I did it, but have NO plans to go back for a re-run.
For anyone else who may be interested in trying it, the less water in the river means the more violent the rapids. You'll see a good few crocodiles along the way, so be SCARED when you get thrown out of the raft ;-)

Now that's a wild experience indeed, Phill. I'd be happy to be the one taking the photo. :) At the least, you now have a great tale to tell.

I saw people doing this (as well as bungee jumping off a bridge). Safety standards are different in this part of the world. Where people die doing this in the US on lesser rapids, there is no way I would do this here. I did go scuba diving in Kenya and although it was fun, the boat did not pass my safety muster. Once was enough. This is a great shot.

Haha...I know exactly what you mean re safety standards...a group of us once hired a boat get out to an island off Mozambique. On the return journey the engine caught fire. We were all huddled at the bow end and it went down just away from the harbour. We had to swim ashore.
