Along the Silk Road

A few years back, in Japan, my friends took me to visit the Hirayama Ikuo Museum of Art on Ikuchijima Island. Among Ikuo Hirayama's works is an ongoing theme; scenes along the Silk Road.




Hirayama, born 1930, survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, I see echos of this even in many his most tranquil works.




With that visit in mind I subsequently painted this humble homage to the man and his works.




My painting is watercolor on polyester film, viewed from the back side, through the plastic film. 11 by 14 inches.
