For Japan Relief

For Japan Relief
I've said before that I don't sell nor exhibit my artwork in shows or galleries. I've said before that I only paint for pleasure, not for profit nor posterity (if posterity wants picturs, let 'em paint their own! -grin-), -but to paraphrase Leonard Cohen's words in his Chelsea Hotel 2 (words often attributed to a tryst with Janis Joplin,) -for this, I will make an exception.

This is a picture my friend Mariko took of me and my 'Quake' sumi and watercolor on 'rice' paper.

This is at the 3rd Friday art exhibit at the North Pole Grange, The Grange donating their share of monies received to the Japanese Red Cross for Tsunami relief and the artist showing there are all donating various percentages of what they receive to the relief efforts as well..

I took the liberty of modifying Mariko's photo of me, increasing the contrast, etc., to make me less visible and the artwork more so and, -taking another line from Cohen's song; 'we are ugly but we have the music' and paraphrasing it beyond recognition; Though I'm ugly, thanks to the magic of modern photo manipulation techniques you don't have to look at me but you still have the art. :-)

Oh! Even though I made and exception and exhibited, I haven't really quite violated my no sell conceit, 100 percent of any monies the Grange receives from any of my pictures in this show go to the Tsunami relief.

By the way; as I'm writing this I've a set of 35 of Cohen's songs playing.
