Yup, been there, used one 1948ish. Didn't take my turn to empty it as I can remember.
I think they used to call them "Thunder boxes" correct me if I'm wrong Peter.

There were lots of names often local, some of course could seat several often with a lower one for children, although it was water closet my Grandads was the same design in the back yard with the cut up newspaper

I just about remember them Peter. My gran had a tree trunk in here toilet and it was painted the same colour as the walls...I loved it! It wasn't quite outside, but in a lean-to. Good shot and you managed a fence! Take care and have a good weekend.

There are a few of them around the site apparently the chain is there because they have had people try them !!!! In this area the runner bean supports are sometimes called a bean fence. I hope you didn't get caught in one of todays downpours Rosalyn

Starting to read was a mistake because you couldn't find the next square of newspaper !!

We have a privy in our garden, and it's about the same size as this. We use it as a garden tool shed. It's constructed back to back with our attached neighbours.
