Folder: SOME OF THE ANIMALS IN OUR LIVES
Another "Cat that came for chrisymuss" ... a few weeks beforehand, we discovered that the hedgehog food was disappearing, and guessed we were having feline visitations. A very shy cat was soon seen in the garden, it took some time to become habituated to us. This involved plenty of patience and being rewarded/bribed with a well-known brand of cat treats.
We did determine male gender in mid-December, and about the same time Rocki started to submit to being picked up for a few minutes. By the winter solstice he would accept some serious stroking and would sometimes emit a faint purr. Ben de-Dog is [at the end of Dec'22] still not quite convinced that Rocki will be his friend.
The "Rocki" is from his tabby / raccoon ringed tail, as Ben de-Dog has a "stuffie" toy with that colouration.
This cat can sleep for olympic championship lengths of time ... he must be making up the deficit by now, surely.
He's quite the adventurer at times, with absences of varying lengths. From one, he came back infested with enough fleas for several other cats [which were treated / combed out after a couple of days & he was wormed again as a precaution.
On the 4th Feb 2023, he came in with a serious limp, basically unable to walk on his left rear paw. That resulted in a trip to the vet ... and course of anti-inflammatory medicine. He stayed in for the next few days. Vet says he weighs just under 5Kg - large frame - and is probably under 2 - 3 years of age. We then noticed evidence of a cat bite on his tail - to the vets for anti-biotics this time. His limp and the bite healed up nicely over the next week to 10 days, but he has now disappeared. Last seen about midnight on Wednesday, 15th February 2023 ... we've searched, leafleted and made various enquiries but he's still not back [20th Feb] ...
In early March we were informed that a cat matching his description was "hanging around" in a nearby area { maybe 2-3 miles away } ... it is him, the little rascal, but we've not caught him yet - despite the recent frosts and snow.
