{W!P} B&M - Lepidoptera [Butterflies & Moths]

Butterflies and Moths of Great Britain (& Europe). [spun off from oaw - other animals, wild]. There are, according to the UK's Butterfly Conservation lists, 29 of Great Britain's 58 breeding butterfly species as "High UK threat priority", with 9 of those with conservation priority status "Action urgent across UK range" ... A similar picture emerges with Moths, there are c2,500 species in the UK. Of these, c900 are "macro-moths" in which the most recent survey indicates an overall decrease in abundance of 33% in the years 1968 to 2017.

Due to habitat loss, climate change and excessive use of pesticides many species of Lepidoptera are in decline. I deliberately grow a range of plants as food for caterpillars and adults in a "wild" area and on the margins of my garden.

This album is mainly "snapshot" images of adults as seen around the UK, the frequency with which some species are seen around here will be reflected in the number of images - for example multiple views of small tortishells. Apologies as a few images are in poor focus as the target was moving or my camera was being temperamental.
Please note ; I take only images and the subject will be released back into the wild, if it has had to be captured indoors [assuming the weather is suitable].
