Ukraine has been ranked fourth in world for landmine casualties in 2024, with 293 people affected, either killed or injured. A good proportion of them were civilians such as farmers, with the "butterfly" anti-personnel mines being particularly problematical, and children are often victims.
Already the expected humanitarian crisis with liberated areas receiving attention to clear mines, sadly the invaders didn't leave signs or any records as to the extent of the fields laid. Additionally, the flooding after destruction of the Kakhovka Dam - and others - disturbed large numbers
