vol - The tsunami from the 1960 Valdivia earthquake
The Valdivia earthquake in 1960 was the strongest event ever recorded by seismic instruments - 9.5 on the Richter scale - and produced a tsunami that radiated across the Pacific Ocean, and was detectable in Japan & Alaska.
This event was probably the main reason for establishing the Pacific Ocean Tsunami warning buoys system in 1965.
