WASPI campaigned about the way the equalisation of state pension age was carried out in practice. In particular the DWP did not heed it's own research showing that their communications were inadequate.
I think at the very least DWP should have sent out individual letters. Sadly, the gov't refused to pay the tiny amount of compensation that the Ombudsman recommended [Dec2024]

.
{The other factor was that the DWP increased the number of "qualifying" years of National Insurance contributions to obtain the full weekly pension - and you had to have paid a minimum of 52 weeks at the lowest qualifying rate or have been "credited" with a payment due to receiving certain welfare/unemployment benefits for the tax year to count. For people on low wages or with a disrupted work history, achieving this isn't easy, although a reduced Pension could be paid based on only the complete years. [It is also possible to buy credits to complete a year so it can be included in your total]}
.
In other words, a complicated system ... and one that is "pushing" people into "private pension schemes" over and above that required by law.
