rmf - "fossil frond" - Manganeze Hydroxide dendrite

What looks like a fossil frond of something, probably seaweed, as this is in, I think limestone. Spotted in a garden.
[sorry, but I would not have used that paviour in a walkway zone]

E2A - it's not actually a fossil, I've been misled by the shape ... It is Manganese Hydroxide dendrite.

Dear stoneroad,a very interesting find you show us. But I cannot follow your interpretation. I´m sure, (100%) it is a manganese mineralisation, not a fossil. In geology it is called Manganese hydroxide dendrite. Best regards, Karsten

Hi Sara,

I remember finding some of these, and was excited until the geology professor explained that the rocks were formed long before the plants!
