IoM[2] - Tower of Refuge

IoM[2] - Tower of Refuge
Constructed in 1832 at the instigation of Sir William Hillary (largely paid for by him, & with substantial public subscriptions), partially as a consequence of the wreck of the steam packet RMS St George in 1830 on the reefs around Conister Rock [Kione y sker].
As viewed from the Loch Promenade, Douglas

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Refuge ... has many more details.

Apparently the Rock & Tower are still owned by the RNLI, and walks out to it can be arranged.

Thank You ...

I've been involved with RNLI fundraising for many years, so this place has been on my list to see & visit for a long time.
I like adding information to images, probably because I consider that I have been a Librarian since graduating (and I married a teacher !)
