TiG - Woodhorn memorial

TiG - Woodhorn memorial
Miners' memorial at Woodhorn - to the 13 men, inc 8 deputies (and at least one pitpony) killed by an underground explosion on 13th August 1916, as they were working to drive a new drift between the high and low mains.
This monument was originally erected in Hirst Park, Ashington in 1923. It was moved to Woodhorn in 1991 and restored in 2002. It was erected by the Miners and Deputies trade union branches in the Ashington group.
