Bonobomädchen Khaya (Wilhelma)
Khaya (geb.

Khaya (born 2001 in Twycross) is my favourite among the Bonobos, and maybe even among all Wilhelma inhabitants. Time and again she has greeted me enthusiastically, watched me packing and unpacking my bag, and I've lost count how often we played tag - each on her side of the window or fence...

Khaya guckt mich durch die Scheibe an. Das hat sie lange nicht getan...

Khaya looks at me. She hasn't done so for a rather long time...

Bonobo girl Khaya. Countless times she has sat at this corner of her enclosure and exchanged views with me...
Bonobomädchen Khaya (Wilhelma)
My darling bonobo girl Khaya. She is a wonderful lass, playful and thoughtful (we've played tag each on her side of the glass or wire, and we have exchanged many silent views), curious (she loves to inspect the contents of my bags), and so beautiful. <3

Bonobos live only in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They are endangered (EN A4cd in the Red List ) due to both habitat loss and hunting for bushmeat, the latter activity having increased dramatically during the current civil war.
