Himmler

Himmler
Heinrich Himmler (left) and Reinhard Heydrich (right) in Vienna in 1938 just after the Nazis gained control of Austria. Security forces under their command would shortly start arresting those Austrians considered 'asocial', 'criminal' or simply 'disagreeable'.

Himmler’s belief rested on an apocalyptic worldview. In his mind, the all-out battle against Germany’s enemies might last for centuries and could never be won with traditional weapons. To annihilate opponents hell-bent on Germany’s ruin, Himmler and his supporters argued, the nation had to be put on a war footing. Like soldiers, on the battlefields, the troops fighting against the “inner enemy: at home had to act beyond the law. Total victory could only come through total terror, led by Himmler's elite warriros: the police would arrest all individuals harmful to the “body of the nation,” and the SS would isolate them in concentration camps. ` Page 90

Himmler was ever-suspicious of the claims of German entrepreneurs that Jewish labor was indispensable. They were, he felt, merely trying to enrich themselves at the expense of implementing Nazi racial policy and making the Final Solution truly final. Yet wartime economic exigencies fould not be totally ignored. Thus, in the fall of 1942, Himmler stipulated strict conditions for the employment of Jewish labor that would temporarly spare the few of them deported to the death camps, though he made it clear that “there as well the Jews shall disappear some day in accordance with the wish of the Fuhrer.” . . . . . . This study traces the survival of Ariosophy through personal contacts and literary influences. The possibility that List and Lanz von Liebenefels may have already had an influence on Adolf Hitler in his pre-war Vienna days is also investigated. Ariosophy continued to be fostered in the 1920s by small coteries that propagated racist mystery-religions during the Weimar Republic in the hope of national revival. At least two Ariosophists were closely involved with Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler in the 1930s, contributing to his projects in prehistory, SS order ceremonial, and even to his visionary poans for the Greater Germanic Reich in the third millennium. In this account of their succession, it is shown how the fantasies of A4iosophy, besides being symptoms of anxiety and cultural nostalgia, illuminate the ultimate dream world of the Third Reich. ~ Page 6
