But when we confront the works of art brut, we feel, we see something else: we see stark stereotyped faces with eyes staring at the making the environment we survey fade away and indicating another world; we see the visualization, the materialization of world unlike anything we have ever seen; we feel the vehemence of the anxietites, terrors, explosive sexuality; we read words, the overfamiliar words of advertising slogans or biblical injunctions, here meaning something strange. However much these works have been museumified, interpreted by academic skilled in explaining the cultural constitution of individuality and authenticity, these works are disturbing. Inwardly we feel the mysterious forces of suffering, of yearning, or desperation. They are not the solutions invented in desperate situations; they are expressions, visualizations, intensifications, materializations of desperation.
