Questo ponte fu costruito da Eiffel nel 1877, prima della sua famosa torre.
L'opera era stata progettata dall'ingegnere francese per essere posta all'interno della sua abitazione parigina. In seguito la città di Girona decise di acquistarla per sostituire un'antica passerella di legno rossa (come il colore del ponte) costruita sul fiume Onyar dai pescatori ed è per questo che è anche conosciuto come Pont de les Peixateries Velles, o il Ponte dei Pescatori
