Abbaye du Thoronet
La « merveille » des abbayes cisterciennes. Édifiée entre 1160 et 1230, l'abbaye du Thoronet est, avec Silvacane et Sénanque, l'une des trois abbayes cisterciennes de Provence. Chef-d'œuvre en péril après la Révolution, sa restauration débute en 1841.
La pureté et la simplicité des volumes, essentiellement dictées par l'organisation de la vie communautaire, inspirent des générations d'architectes. Le Corbusier visite le site en 1953 : « À l'heure du "béton brut", bénie, bienvenue et saluée soit, au cours de la route, une telle admirable rencontre. »
