Trains no more
After closure of the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway in April 1966, the A66 road from Cockermouth to Keswick was built on the the trackbed. Traces remain, as this view of a footpath alongside Bassenthwaite Lake shows.
This is looking towards Cockermouth, with the path tucked in between Bassenthwaite Lake, on the right, and the busy A66 road just behind the bushes on the left.
