Before it was famous

Before it was famous
With a collection of vans in tow, including what looks like a Syphon G 4th in line from the loco, Brush Type 4 No 1628 stands at Crewe.
Just one of hundreds of similar locos at the time, this particular machine later found fame as being chosen in 1974, and renumbered to 47601, as a test bed for a Ruston 16 cylinder 3250hp engine in connection with the Class 56 project.
Then in 1979 was again renumbered, to 47901, and fitted with a Ruston 12 cylinder 3300hp engine, which resulted in the Class 58.
